John is President & CEO of two Southern California engineering firms: JMC2 Civil Engineering, a San Pedro based company founded in 1996 and Okamoto Structural Engineering, a Costa Mesa firm founded in 1979. His current responsibilities include corporate leadership, client relations, business development, community outreach, and project management.
John attended the University of Southern California (USC) where he received his Bachelors of Science in Building Science in 1988 and his Masters of Science in Engineering Management in 1994.
In addition to his 30 years in civil engineering, John is currently a Board Member of the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority, City Selection Committee, League of California Cities LA County Division, South Bay Sanitation District, and the South Bay Cities Council of Governments. He is a member of the Construction Managers Association of American and the International Council of Shopping Centers. In 2017, he was named a Fellow with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and awarded Alumni of Year from USC’s School of Civil Engineering.
John lives in Rancho Palos Verdes with his wife, Jennifer, and teenage son, Sean, who is away studying at Arizona State University. John was recently selected as Mayor for the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, and he still serves as an Advanced Soccer Referee.
