The City has activated its Emergency Operations Center at Level 3, the lowest level of activation, in order to maintain continuous communication with government agencies, the City Council, and the community.
Parks and Nature Preserve
Out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with guidance from state and local health officials to slow the spread of COVID-19, the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve, all City parks, beaches, community centers, amenities and trails are closed until further notice. All park buildings, playgrounds, parking lots, restrooms, game courts, and fields are closed. All park programming has been canceled until further notice. This includes all recreational activities, indoor and outdoor sports leagues, instructional courses, and group sessions/private events.
The closures are in accordance with a local emergency proclamation adopted by the City Council and come after City Staff and Park Rangers observed a high volume of visitors to City parks and the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve despite the “Safer at Home” Public Health Officer Order calling for social distancing.

The Peninsula Seniors Scriba Family Center is closed and all classes, trips, lectures and activities are temporarily postponed until further notice.

The school district has closed facilities, and fields where they can be locked. In accordance with Los Angeles County Department of Public Health guidelines, individuals may use accessible open spaces for exercise if they maintain social distancing requirements. As such, team sports are not allowed.

Marymount California University has closed its campus and moved all instruction online for the rest of the spring semester. Faculty and staff are working remotely and able to provide services. The Villas remain open with food service, security and supervision. Other campus services are available remotely by email and phone. Athletic practices and competitions have been suspended through the end of the academic year and university-sponsored events have been cancelled or postponed. Palos Verdes Library District branches are closed until further notice. Online services are available 24/7 at pvld.org. All due dates have been extended. No new fees/dues will accrue. Holds will be waiting when branches reopen an no new holds will be processed.

The Terranea Resort is temporarily closed, effective Friday, March 20, due to government mandates and as part of its continued effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).
“The health and wellbeing of our guests, associates and community is paramount at Terranea Resort,” said Terri A. Haack, President of Terranea Resort. “Due to government mandates and as part of our continued effort to ensure a safe and healthy environment, our team has been working around the clock to determine how best to take care of our guests and each other. Our hearts go out to all of those affected during these uncertain times. We will continue to support our associates, guests, and community members in every way that we can during this period of closure and we plan to resume our offerings as soon as it is safe to do so in accordance with government guidelines.”
Ms. Haack further indicated that, while the resort grounds will be temporarily closed to the public, there will be a 24/7 on-site security presence at the resort. Public coastal trails are closed as a result of the City’s closure of all park and open space areas.
The resort is also taking steps to reduce the financial burden of the temporary closure on its employees. At this time, the resort continues to accept reservations for overnight stays that begin on May 11 or later.
