On October 16, the City of Rancho Palos Verdes will unveil a monument honoring the Indigenous people of Los Angeles at Abalone Cove Park. Designed in collaboration with the Gabrieleño/Tongva San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians, the stone monument displays interpretive bronze bas relief plaques sculpted by artist Geri Jimenez Gould, including a Tongva village scene with Catalina Island in the background.
The public is invited to attend the 10 a.m. unveiling ceremony at Abalone Cove Park at 5970 Palos Verdes Drive South. This event will include remarks by Rancho Palos Verdes Mayor Eric Algeria, Gabrieleño/Tongva San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians Chief Anthony Morales, Rancho Palos Verdes resident Tom Steers, who organized the project, and Ms. Gould.
