The fastest growing sport in the country can now be played at the Ken Dyda Civic Center! Responding to trends in recreation and requests from the community to expand recreation opportunities, the Recreation and Parks Department has added two pickleball courts to the existing tennis court at the Ken Dyda Civic Center. The new courts were created by painting pickleball lines on each side of the tennis court and providing sturdy, temporary nets that can be rolled into place for play.
The court is open for first-come first-serve tennis and pickleball play from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset daily, except during City sponsored events and activities. The Recreation and Parks Department recommends that players limit time on the court to one hour while others are waiting and return pickleball nets to a storage position off the court at the conclusion of play.
According to the National Recreation and Park Association Top Trends in Recreation for 2022, pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country with over 4 million players nationwide. The Recreation and Parks Department is excited to offer this new recreation opportunity to community members of all ages. Additional pickleball programs in the City of Rancho Palos Verdes may be explored in the future.
