On February 1st, California Water Service Company (CalWater) reported a leaky valve in the 24" steel main to their regulating station, and water is slowly rising up to the street surface through the existing valve riser in the southbound lane of Palos Verdes Dr. E., just south of Rockinghorse Rd. They will have their contractor, Doty Brothers, start the repair work on Thursday, February 4th at 8:00 AM and the work is expected to take 3 full days to complete. Steel plates may be placed in the roadway at the end of the day on Thursday and will be recessed. Due to intermittent resident water shut-offs, crews may be working until 5:00 PM.
CalWater will have a professional traffic control company setting up traffic control using flaggers, who will stay close together so the typical delay should range from 1 to 5 minutes, depending on the traffic flow. The City’s two Public Works inspectors were out with CalWater this morning to go over the scope of the job and discuss resurfacing requirements. The inspectors also visited and informed all surrounding schools of the possible delays during the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up hours.
