[ARCHIVED] Coastal Commission Notices Posted in City Parks for MPA Signs

Point Vicente MPA_1 (reduced).jpg

The California Ocean Protection Council (COPC) has applied to the California Coastal Commission (CCC) for a master coastal development permit for a statewide network of interpretive signs for the State’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). This includes the MPAs at Point Vicente and Abalone Cove in Rancho Palos Verdes. The proposed signs will be slightly smaller than but similar to the recently-installed California Coastal Trail interpretive panels that have been placed in several locations along the City's coastline. There are proposed to be a total of seven (7) MPA signs at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center, Pelican Cove Park, Frank A. Vanderlip, Sr. Park and Abalone Cove Shoreline Park.

As a part of the CCC hearing process, a notice needs to be posted at the location of each proposed sign. On Tuesday, June 16th, notices were posted at each of the seven (7) proposed sign locations. These notices need to remain posted up until the CCC hearing date, which is expected to be held on July 8th-10th in Ventura. Please do not remove or deface these notices.

For questions about the CCC permit process, please contact Cassidy Teufel in the CCC's San Francisco office at (415) 904-9200 or Cassidy.Teufel@coastal.ca.gov. For questions about the City's MPAs, please contact Kit Fox in the Rancho Palos Verdes City Manager's office at (310) 544-5226 or kitf@rpvca.gov.
