Dinner Donations to Local Grocery Workers
Last evening, the City expressed its gratitude to RPV’s grocery workers and supported one of our restaurants by donating dinner to the staffs of Smart & Final and Ralphs markets. Councilman Dave Bradley, Councilwoman Barbara Ferraro, her grandson, Bryce, and City Manager Ara Mihranian delivered sandwiches from Bird Talk Chicken on Western Avenue to thank these frontline workers, who are playing a vital role in getting our community through this pandemic. Thank you to these hardworking personnel, who should always be treated with kindness. The City encourages residents to support our first responders, health care workers, essential workers and local restaurants, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. L.A. County Applies for Variance to Move Further into Reopening
After meeting readiness criteria, this week, the County of Los Angeles applied for a variance with the State of California to move further in Stage 2 and into Stage 3 of the State’s Roadmap to Recovery. If granted, the county could reopen some in-person dining (restaurants) and personal care businesses (hair salons and barbershops, but not nail salons).
The move comes after the Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday to seek a variance for the county as a whole, but not on a city-by-city basis. Rancho Palos Verdes and other cities had supported a proposal from Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Janice Hahn to allow individual cities and regions with fewer COVID-19 cases to seek variances, but it did not gain board support. Read the City’s support letter at: bit.ly/2Xa8lWz
A decision from the state on the variance could come within days. City staff will continue to monitor this issue.

Letter to Supervisor Hahn from the Peninsula Cities Requesting the Reopening of Businesses
This week, the four Peninsula cities sent a letter to L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn requesting that the County of Los Angeles, along with the State of California, allow businesses throughout the South Bay to open within Phase 3 guidelines while following the state and county safety protocols. The letter noted that Peninsula businesses are ready to implement the required industry safety protocols to ensure employees and customers are protected, and that the Peninsula cities are exploring the “open street” concept, similar to other cities in the county, by issuing temporary permits to allow businesses to move their operations outside onto patios or on-site parking spaces.

- Stay home if you are not feeling well.

A total of 71 locations are now assisting customers with a current appointment at the specific office and limited transactions that require an in-person visit. The DMV has begun rescheduling prior appointments and notifying customers of the new date. The DMV, which initially reopened 25 offices earlier this month, continues to encourage customers to use online services, its expanded virtual services and other service channels to complete transactions, including eligible driver license and vehicle registration renewals.
