Trending Shows Case Rates Among Youths Are IncreasingLast week, L.A. County's Department of Public Health (DPH) shared that younger residents were driving the majority of COVID-19 cases in L.A. County - with 76% of new cases occurring in people under 50 years old - of which 54% of new cases were among people under 30.
This week, DPH provided additional data which offers a more detailed look at cases and deaths by age. As demonstrated by the above slide, since May, the majority of cases have occurred among individuals between the ages of 18 and 49. The yellow line represents the proportion of all cases among 18-29 year olds. This age group is accounting for a sharply increasing percentage of cases - while other age groups are flat or decreasing slightly.
L.A. County continues to urge residents of all ages to: - Comply with the public health directives in place -- continue to wear a face covering, continue to practice physical distance and continue to avoid gathering with people you don’t live with.
- In order for L.A. County to stay on the Road to Recovery, we must all contain the virus -- if you’re feeling sick, stay home and call your doctor. If you get a call from a contact tracer, please tell the tracer who you’ve seen and where you've been. The information is confidential and LA County won’t tell anyone that you have COVID-19. We need your help to stop the virus in its tracks.
- And finally, collaborate. We can't slow the spread of COVID-19 without you.

COVID-19 Points to the Need for Residents to Complete the 2020 CensusL.A. County Health officials have sounded the alarm over current low census response rates that are putting the county at risk of losing federal funding to respond to emergencies like COVID-19. Health officials are highlighting the COVID-19 crisis as an example of how important federal funding is to maintaining a strong local health care system.
To see why an accurate count is so critical for L.A. County residents, watch this video:

As of July 27, Rancho Palos Verdes has a self-response rate of 75.7%, above state and national averages, but behind our goal of 100% participation. The U.S. Census Bureau, however, has extended the official deadline to participate in the census to October 31 in response to the evolving COVID-19 crisis. If you haven't already done so, complete your census form now: - Online: L.A. County 2020 Census Website at census.lacounty.gov, which offers county-specific information in 16 languages; or the U.S. 2020 Census Website at my2020census.gov, which offers general information in 59 languages, including in-language guides
- By phone, at 844-330-2020.
- By mail, if you receive a paper form.
Remember, completing the census is private. Responses are protected by federal law, specifically Title 13 of the United States Code. They cannot be shared with any other government agencies or other entities, including your landlord. For more information, visit census.lacounty.gov
Census Takers Coming to your Neighborhood
Starting in August, census takers will visit homes that have not yet responded to the 2020 Census.
If you respond online or by phone today, a census taker is less likely to have to visit your home to collect your response.
What to expect • Census takers will wear face coverings and follow public health guidelines when they visit your home. • Census takers are hired from your area, and their goal is to help you and everyone in your home be counted in the 2020 Census. If the census taker who visits your home does not speak your language, you may request a return visit from a census taker who does speak your language. • If no one is home when the census taker visits, they will leave a notice of their visit with information about how to respond online, by phone or by mail.
How can you verify that someone is an authorized Census Taker?
• Check to make sure they have a valid ID badge with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark and an expiration date. • Census workers may also carry Census Bureau bags and other equipment with the Census Bureau logo.
If you still have questions about their identity, you can call 213-314-6500 to speak with a Census Bureau representative.

Get Outdoors and Go on an Adventure with Agents of Discovery!July is Park and Recreation Month! To celebrate, the City has teamed up with the California Park & Recreation Society and the Agents of Discovery mobile educational gaming platform to promote safe and healthy outdoor adventures and self-guided activities. RPV is one of 30 agencies participating in the Parks Make Life Better Campaign, which encourages young explorers, or “Agents,” to visit as many participating locations as possible to earn real-life and digital rewards. Although the campaign runs through July, the game is so popular in RPV, the City plans to continue to offer it through at least August.
Kids and their families can participate by downloading the Agents of Discovery app to access free “Missions” (games) at each of the participating locations. Missions are completed by solving educational “Challenges” (questions) created by the site’s interpreters in order to learn about local ecosystems, culture, and history.
To download the free Agents of Discovery app, go to Google Play or the App Store. Once downloaded, find the participating site’s Mission within the app and hit “Play” before you head out. No WiFi connectivity is required to download or play the Missions.
