Voting in L.A. County this November? Know Your Options.If you're voting in L.A. County this November, pretty soon you'll have more options on how to cast your ballot. As November approaches, and residents consider their choices during the COVID-19 health crisis, L.A. County has added new options for voting. Beginning October 6, the county will mail all registered voters a vote by mail ballot. In addition to receiving the vote by mail ballot, registered voters will also have multiple options for returning the ballot, such as:
- Dropping it in a vote by mail drop box location (which should be found in various civic and community buildings throughout the county);
- Dropping it off at any vote center in the county; or
- Dropping it in the mail (remember, no postage is necessary, but it does need to be postmarked by Election Day)
Also new this year - a tracking option! L.A. County voters will have the option of tracking their ballot through the free "Where's My Ballot" service. When you subscribe to the service you can request to receive personalized text messages, emails or automated voice messages on your vote by mail ballot.
To sign up to track your ballot, or for more information on the new voting options, visit https://lavote.net/home/voting-elections/voting-options/vote-by-mail/how-to-vote-by-mail

Be Counted. Complete the Census.
Have you completed your 2020 census? Responses to the census shape decisions about how billions of dollars in federal funds flow into communities each year for the next 10 years for critical services, including health care, emergency response, schools and education programs, and roads and bridges. The COVID-19 pandemic underscores the importance of census data and census participation.
As of August 10, Rancho Palos Verdes has a self-response rate of 76.6%, above state and national averages, but behind our goal of 100% participation. The U.S. Census Bureau has extended the official deadline to participate in the census to October 31 in response to the evolving COVID-19 crisis. If you haven't already done so, complete your census form now online at my2020census.gov, by phone at 844-330-2020, or by mail if you receive a paper form.

Safety Precautions for 2020 Census Interviews
On August 10, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Census Bureau released a joint statement regarding follow-up interviews that will be conducted with households that have not yet competed the 2020 Census:
In carrying out our respective missions, the U.S. Census Bureau and the CDC are committed to protecting the health and safety of those we serve and employ. This is particularly important during the current COVID-19 health crisis.
Participation in 2020 Census interviews should present a low risk of transmission of COVID-19. Census takers are trained to rigorously and universally follow these CDC recommendations to mitigate risk of transmission:
- Wearing of face masks.
- Maintaining social distance of 6 ft. or more.
- Practicing hand hygiene.
- Not entering homes, and conducting interviews outside as much as possible or practical.
Household members encountered by census staff are encouraged to maintain social distances during interviews and practice the CDC’s other recommendations as much as possible.
The CDC stands ready to support the work of the Census Bureau and its staff in providing consultation and technical assistance to ensure that relevant data and findings are communicated in a timely fashion to keep Census field staff and household members safe and healthy.
