October 17 Mayor’s Honorees
At the City Council meeting on October 19, 2021, the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council proudly recognized the work of Ms. Audrey Lin and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Branch of the American Association of University Women.
Ms. Audrey Lin, a student at Chadwick School, organized an art show that showcased artwork that embraced the diversity and cultural significance of the Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Community. Ms. Lin was motivated by the recent rise in hate crimes targeting Asian Americans and her goal was to celebrate the AAPI community using the power of art. Ms. Lin’s dedicated fundraising efforts resulted in a $10,000 donation to Asian-Americans Advancing Justice, a Los Angeles based non-profit. To view Ms. Lin’s artwork, the other artwork on display, and to learn more about Asian-Americans Advancing Justice, visit celebratingaapi.art.
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) was recently awarded the National Five Star Program Badge for achievement and commitment to AAUW’s mission to achieve a world where all women and girls can thrive. Ms. Nancy Mahr, Ms. Nancy Rayner, and Ms. Cecilia Rogen spearheaded multiple programs over the course of a year, including presentations, donations, social media outreach, and public policies. The PVP Branch has been actively involved in the community since it was founded in 1957. To learn more about the PVP Branch of AAUW, visit palosverdes-ca.aauw.net.
