Boosters

COVID-19 Update: Vaccine Boosters Now Available to Anyone Ages 18+

California has expanded eligibility for COVID-19 vaccine booster shots to everyone ages 18+.

If you received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine:

The L.A. County Department of Public Health recommends booster doses for everyone age 18 and older who received their second dose at least 6 months ago. Booster doses are strongly recommended if you are:

  • Age 65 and older
  • Age 18 and older and have an underlying medical condition or have risk of exposure at work or in the community.

If you are moderately to severely immunocompromised and have already received your third dose, you should consider getting a booster dose (this would be six months after your third dose). Talk with your doctor.

If you received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine:

The L.A. County Department of Public Health strongly recommends booster shots for everyone who was vaccinated two or more months ago.

Can I get a different vaccine for my booster dose?

You may choose which vaccine you receive as a booster dose. It can be a booster dose of Pfizer, Moderna, or J&J COVID-19 vaccine. Talk to your doctor if you have questions about the risks and benefits of a booster or about which vaccine to get as a booster.
