Tropical Storm Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Watch due to Hurricane Hilary, which is forecasted to impact our City starting this weekend. Here's what you need to know:

  • Expect Heavy Rainfall: Potential for flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Avoid driving on flooded roads.
  • High Winds: Secure your outdoor spaces. Move furniture, umbrellas, and other light-weight items to indoor or secured areas to ensure they don’t fly away. Be cautious of falling debris or trees.
  • Possible Power Outages: Ensure you have emergency supplies, including flashlights, batteries, and non-perishable food. To view the status of current outages, visit sce.com/outage. Power lines may be down. Always consider those lines energized. Stay away and call 9-1-1.
  • Report debris, downed trees and branches to City Hall at 310-544-5252 or by using the MyRPV app. After business hours, contact the Lomita Sheriff’s Station at 310-539-1661. For emergencies, call 9-1-1.
  • Sandbags are available to RPV residents at City Hall during regular business hours.
  • Avoid Coastal Areas: Risk of storm surge and high waves. Keep a safe distance from the shoreline.
  • Stay Updated: Monitor local news and the National Weather Service for the latest information. For updates from the City, check rpvca.gov/hilary and follow us on Nextdoor, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Know Your Evacuation Zone: Familiarize yourself with your designated zone on PVPready.gov. It's crucial to #KnowYourZone before a crisis arises. Store this detail on your smartphone, jot it down, and put it somewhere easily accessible - perhaps on your fridge or next to your entryway.
  • Sign Up for Emergency Alerts: Register for Alert SouthBay emergency notifications by texting “alertsb” to 888- 777, visiting alertsouthbay.com, or downloading the Everbridge app. These alerts will keep you informed during emergencies.

Now is the time to make the necessary arrangements to stay safe. For further guidance and resources, please go to ready.lacounty.gov/rain.
