City Council Meeting HighlightsHighlights from the December 5 City Council meeting: - Outgoing Mayor Barbara Ferraro was honored for leading the Council during RPV’s 50th anniversary and retiring City Attorney Bill Wynder was recognized for his years of service representing the City.
- John Cruikshank was selected as the next Mayor and Eric Alegria as Mayor Pro Tem.
- City staff gave a status update on the process of completing the City’s 6th Cycle Housing Element, a document that outlines ways the City can meet its state-required target of zoning for 647 new housing units in various income levels through 2029.
- Residents expressed concerns about the urgency of completing the Housing Element update as soon as possible. City staff is making changes to the Housing Element and will present both the revised document and proposed rezoning that is part of it to the Planning Commission and City Council in the coming months.
- The Council decided to continue RPV’s membership in Cal Cities, an association of cities throughout the state, stressing the importance of advocating for local control.
- A presentation on SCE’s action plan to address recurring power outages in the Grandview Estates neighborhood was continued, without discussion, to the December 19 meeting.
