The Lomita Sheriff's Station produces a weekly crime report summary that includes information about reported crimes and arrests for the areas served by the Lomita Sheriff's Station, including the City of Rancho Palos Verdes. 

However, please note that the information contained in these reports is subject to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's reporting protocols. As a result, some details related to ongoing investigations may not be included.  For a complete list of all crimes, you may visit LASD's Transparency page.

Celebrating a Safer Rancho Palos Verdes: 

Crime Rates Decline

Recent crime data for Rancho Palos Verdes unveils a promising trend that underscores the concerted efforts towards community safety. Over the years, the city has witnessed a notable decrease in both property and violent crimes, reflecting a positive shift in its security landscape.

Analyzing the statistics from 1985 to 2023, the data reveals a consistent decline in total Part I crimes. In 1985, the total stood at 751 incidents, gradually dropping to 365 by 2023. This 5-year running average depicted in the dashed blue line is a remarkable downward trajectory, showcasing a vigilant community's commitment to curbing criminal activities.

Delving deeper into the numbers, property crimes have significantly decreased over the years, from 674 incidents in 1985 to 326 in 2023. Likewise, violent crimes have also shown a steady decline, with 77 incidents in 1985 compared to 39 in 2023.

Noteworthy is the community's resilience in maintaining this downward trend despite occasional fluctuations. From a 5.8% decrease in 1989 to a 28% decline in 2021, Rancho Palos Verdes has consistently worked towards creating a safer environment for its residents. Comparing just Calendar year 2023 to 2022 Rancho Palos Verdes saw a 17.6% decline in Part 1 Crimes.

This positive momentum can be attributed to a range of factors, including robust law enforcement strategies, active community engagement, and the implementation of innovative crime prevention measures including our ALPR Camera and Neighborhood Camera network. Additionally, the collective vigilance of residents and businesses has played a pivotal role in deterring criminal behavior and fostering a sense of security.

As we celebrate these encouraging statistics, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding our community. Together, we can build upon this progress and ensure that Rancho Palos Verdes continues to thrive as a safe and welcoming place for all.

Public Safety Reimbursement Program

Public Safety Reimbursement Program

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes offers Public Safety Reimbursements for the purchase of doorbell or neighborhood camera systems.  Please see the graphic below to learn more about the application process.  

 The City will provide a one-time reimbursement for half of the cost of a new public safety purchase, up to $2,000 for neighborhoods, and up to $100 for individuals. 

 The City will additionally waive permit fees directly related to the installation of the approved purchase. The neighborhood, individual, or vendor will be responsible for completing any necessary permits prior to installation.

Applications are still being accepted until funding is exhausted.  The online application form is available on the city website; receipts, photos, and neighborhood attestation may be submitted through the form.  Links are provided below to complete your application.   Don’t wait, apply today!
