City Council Meeting HighlightsHighlights from the April 15, 2025 City Council meeting: - City staff gave an annual update on Trump National Golf Club’s compliance with its maintenance obligations for trails and open space areas.
- Despite challenges over the past few years related to increased trail use during the pandemic, and damage from heavy rains, Trump National continues to keep up with maintenance needs.
- City staff and Trump National are working on possible solutions to remedy the 2021 closures of the Catalina Trail Bridge due to erosion and the Coastal Switchback Trail due to a small landslide.
- The Council also discussed potentially charging property owners an assessment next fiscal year for the Citywide Landscaping and Lighting Maintenance District, which funds the maintenance of landscaping, lighting, traffic signals, and other improvements in public areas.
- No levy has been charged since 2017 due to sufficient funds. However, due to the financial strain of the Portuguese Bend landslide emergency, the Council opted to consider reinstating a levy of $23.50 per parcel, which could generate $325,000-$350,000.
- The Council is tentatively scheduled to vote on reinstating the levy at the June 3 meeting.
