Tsunami Advisory in Effect
The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center has issued a Tsunami Advisory for the entire California coast, including Los Angeles County, in effect until further notice, following an 8.8 earthquake off the eastern coast of Russia at 4:24 PM today, July 29, 2025.
A Tsunami Advisory is in the middle tier of the Tsunami Warning Center’s alert system. It means that residents should stay away from beaches and coastal areas because of the possibility of flooding and dangerous currents. There are NO evacuations for any coastal areas, and NO widespread flooding is expected on land.
People should stay out of the water and away from beaches and waterways. Do not go to beach or coastal areas to try to observe the potential tsunami. The tsunami is expected to begin around 1:00 a.m., and can cause strong currents that can be dangerous for swimmers and cause boats to detach from docks. The tsunami height in Los Angeles is expected to be less than 1 foot.
