How Did This Process Get Started?
The City completed a City-wide Parks Master Plan for all park sites in the City. After extensive public outreach, the City Council approved this plan on October 6, 2015. The 2009 Coast Vision Plan which included a conceptual plan for the Civic Center site was folded into the Parks Master Plan (PDF).
The Parks Master Plan recommended a comprehensive Master Plan Design and Public Outreach Process for the Point Vicente Park/Civic Center which includes City Hall. The Master Plan noted that current buildings are in need of significant renovation to meet organizational needs, comply with safety and code requirements, and comply with all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.
The Civic Center Advisory Committee (CCAC) has met monthly since 2017 to provide recommendations to the City Council on the Civic Center Master Plan.
